Dancer, Vocals, Yabara
Aoua was born in Sikasso, Mali, and is of the Bambara ethnic group. She started dancing at the age of 18 in 2007, despite her parent’s disapproval, and danced professionally without her parents knowing for a few years.
Her first formal tuition was with Malian choreographer, Moussa Camara, who instructed many of Bamako’s youth groups in dance. Aoua later trained with Djelimarka Sacko in Ballet Benkadi for seven years, touring to France (Marseilles) with this group.
Aoua is most inspired by Bwazan’s professionalism and strong musical direction. She says, with Bwazan, there is always an equal exchange of ideas.
