The Festival sur le Niger is held annually in Segou, Mali and promotes peace, cultural diversity, social cohesion, and national unity in Mali and Africa.
During this weeklong festival, Segou becomes the artistic and cultural capital of Mali and the sub-region of West Africa. The festival offers a vibrant and rich program with concerts, workshops, master classes, exhibitions, and theatre held throughout the week.
Emerging percussion groups compete annually for the opportunity to perform at this festival. Since winning the festival’s ‘découverte jeune talent’ award in 2010, Bassidi Koné and Bwazan have played regularly at this event, with sponsorship from the Minister of Arts and Culture (Mali).
